Kayak trip on Scioto Brush Creek

March 24, 2011

Matt Radabaugh and Tad Conger kayaking on Scioto Brush Creek.

If I was to rate this trip on a scale from 1-10, I would rate it as 10 for it is a scenic trip. Put in just North of state route 32 at the first bridge on state route 73 North. The trip was about 6.5 miles south and ending back on state route 73 just north of Rarden Ohio. If your looking for rock overhangs you can find them here on SBC. The Heron birds are nesting in several different spots, and are something to see as you drift along. If you plan to take a trip down this section you'll have to catch the water level just right. It was perfect today! People think they always have to leave Ohio to see some place beautiful. We have several great spots right here in our own backyards. Check out www.friendsofsciotobrushcreek.org/ Thanks Martin for the info about the creek it was a blast! Please see below for more pics!

  1. Looks like the water level was perfect! Is there a water guage on the creek, and if so what was it at?

  2. Thanks for posting on my blog. We did not see a water gauge, but if you measure from the top of the water up to the road on 73 just north of 32 and its around four feet your good to go. On this section we only had to get out twice because of trees in the way, but as for the water it was perfect.

  3. Great pics!

I plan to do Racoon Creek as soon as the water level is back down. Adamsville guage should read just below 4ft from what I've seen of the creek. Maybe next wekkend?

  6. Hi Fellow paddlers, Six paddlers from NW Ohio will be heading to your area in May for a first experience on the Hocking River, Little Raccoon and the Raccoon. We are looking for some tips to put in and take out. We have the list of such sites, but we would like advice for good trips. We enjoy 8-12 miles paddles. We would be open to other waterways. We are staying one week at Lake Hope State Park. Thanks for any help or advice you can send our way. Paddler Tom

  7. Hello Paddler Tom! Little Raccoon is a great trip from Buckeye Furnace to Keystone Furnace. Check out my blog archive for our Little Raccoon trip. There is a parking lot at Buckeye state park that you can use. Just remember that the old cover bridge is out and you will have to come in off old 124 as for parking at Keystone Furnace you can park alongside the road on Keystone Furnace road at the bridge just before the furnace. Great trip. We have not yet done the upper part of The Big Raccoon, but I can tell you that it would be a great trip. I have spent some time up at Lake Hope and around Moonville. We have done the section from Tycoon Lake to Cora Falls on Raccoon and it’s a good 6-10 mile trip. It goes right through Bob Evans farm, which even has a camp ground that you can use. Another great trip is from Londonderry OH to Richmond Dale OH on Salt Creek.
